Two people from completely different worlds are about to be thrown together…
In more ways than one.
She wants to keep her scholarship. He wants to stay on the team. An awkward alliance doesn’t even begin to cover Rimmel and Romeo’s relationship.
But that’s about to change.
It starts with a dare. An initiation. A challenge.
Quickly, it turns into more. But when you’re a victim of your status, there is no room for anything real. The rules are clear and simple.
Stick to your circle. And never fall in love with anyone on the outside.
So we’re pretty much a horror/paranormal blog. I mean look around for a minute. The last 5 books I’ve read were zombie books. When I saw the first teaser image go up for #Nerd I knew. I just KNEW I had to read it. Not because it was my normal fair, but because it seemed so far outside of my normal reading that it seemed like a breath of fresh air.
I would hedge that a large portion of the gals in the book blogging community would identify with Rimmel. I think we, or at least the girls here identify as nerdy on more than one level (with Elyse being the nerdiest). The premise of the book is pretty simple. Girl is a dork, meets amazing jock guy. They fall in love. It’s like a written, updated, and WAY cooler version of She’s All That. What made #Nerd stand out, more than the hashtags and the Alpha Buzz Feed, was the fact that it didn’t take a complete transformation for Rimmel to get the guy. In fact, other than brushing her hair more often, she doesn’t really change that much. I LOVED that. She’s starts of as Rimmel, and ends as Rimmel. The surface changes that she makes doesn’t touch the person she is inside. The same can be said for Romeo. There is character growth, but the very core of them is still the same. It just took becoming friends, and that’s what it really started as AWESOME, to sort of smooth out some of their rougher edges.
This book is very much character driven. It’s actually perfect, I don’t actually always need a blood bath to make me happy while you’re reading. Sometimes just watching two amazing characters interact, and make their way through their fictional world is extremely satisfying. I LOVED these characters. I sat down with them one afternoon, and did NOT want to say goodbye that evening, but there I was staring at that horrible 100%.
Reading #Nerd kept me going, I’d had an absolutely horrible week, but this book put a HUGE smile on my face, and seriously that is the greatest compliment I can give any book. I #Need book 2. Like now.
