For P.J. Stone, being a “Seer” who has never seen anything is less than fun. And P.J. isn’t known for her patience.
To make matters worse, she must choose a suitable mate to continue the Seer bloodline. Duty always comes before her heart…at least that’s what her parents taught her. When she finds herself wanting someone who is considered off-limits, P.J. is forced to question everything she believes.
As if navigating her love life isn’t complicated enough, P.J. finally receives a vision—of a threat to her world that only she can perceive. But no one will believe a fledgling Seer’s warnings. With nowhere else to turn, she may decide to trust a stranger with her life, her world, and maybe even her heart.
Hidden Gates is fantasy meets sci-fi. We have magic, aliens and a number of creatures that only live in myth. But it’s also more than that; it’s a love story. P.J., Paige, is a Seer, which carries a lot of weight within her community. Even though humanity isn’t aware that the magical community exists around us, they are in fact protecting us, and it is the Seer’s job to see danger coming. What happens, though, when an amateur Seer has a premonition of the Ultimate danger, while other more experienced Seers have drawn a blank?
It doesn’t help that P.J.’s love life is a total mess. She falls for the man of her dreams, but he is also forbidden to her. Her Seer status means that she is responsible for carrying on the Seer line. According to her parents, it means that P.J. must sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of her people, and marry someone more suitable.
The world building is Awesome (with a capital A)! The whole background behind the magic and its practitioners is really dynamic and well detailed. Even with all of that, though, it was the characters that won me over. DT Dyllin’s characters, no matter the genre she’s writing, are always so vibrant! I always feel an instant connection with them, and I’m talking within mere pages! Their dialogue isn’t forced and their reactions are real.
If there had to be one thing that I didn’t like, it’s that the love life is oh, so complicated. P.J. isn’t your average girl, and as she comes into her powers, men start coming out of the woodwork, vying for a chance to be with her. I never thought I would live to see the day when I said these words: TOO. MANY. MEN. Each is more incredible than the last! There are so much swoon-worthy men, there is guaranteed to be a man for ANY reader. 😉
Can’t wait to read the sequel!!
P.J. Stone is a Seer who saw too little, too late.
In the past, her biggest worries were boys and school—but war has a way of changing things. Now, the alien Riders are trying to overrun the world. As the last of their kind, P.J. and her friends must find a way to save humanity before there’s nothing left to save.
After choosing a mate, P.J. hoped she’d have time to enjoy her love life. But with everything changing so quickly and major secrets revealed, who knows what the future will bring?
