Contagious Crafts! #Giveaway

January 13, 2014 Feature, giveaway 32

So I haven’t been posting a lot this week because I have been busy crafting.  I wanted to share some of what I have been doing, because ALL of it was made with future giveaways in mind.

I’ve been playing around with different types of material, and want to see which one you all like the best.

First I started with little boxes that I picked up at the dollar tree. I call them swag coffins, because I am a big dork like that.

boxesFor these I just used black, red, and green acrylic paints. I painted the outside black, let dry and then using Martha Stewart’s Holiday Stencils I made some dark and pretty boxes. The two holidays I used where Halloween and Valentines day.

I really, really love these. Like so much that I don’t want to give them away.

So, I bought Dollar Tree out of boxes. Alas. I had to find something else to create.

frame5 frame 1 frame2 frame3 frame4I picked these .97 cent frames up from Walmart. I used red, black and silver acrylic paint for these ones, with the same stencils.

Last year I ventured into making tote bags, and they were cool, but not really fitting with the blog. So I decided to take this darker, more us, color scheme and apply it to the totes. Now those tiny little stencils would not look good on the totes at all.

I needed something bigger. So my co-blogger Lindsay sent me this stencil…

biohazard symbolAnd that is literally how big the stencil is. I took the picture into a word document and stretched it out to the size I wanted it, then printed it out. I cut out all the black areas, using a box cutter and scissors, because heaven forbid I have an x-acto knife.  But I got a fairly good looking stencil using these tools.

On to the tote making. Which isn’t really hard, but it’s time consuming. tiny iron

I always iron the totes before doing anything. Then I tape my stencils on. I painted the bio hazard symbol on with red acrylic paint.

Then used fabric markers to ‘brand’ the bags with our blog name.

After all of that I had some helpers add some special touches to the bag. maria'sbloody handcmoneyTote Pre-splatterThe final touch was to splatter the bag with blood. I do this by using a straw (McDonalds straws work the best, because they are FREE and big). I dip one end into paint, and then blow it onto the bag. So much less mess than flinging around a paint brush. (and yes I know not to breathe in, mom.) LOL.

Now for the giveaway: I am offering up one of the black swag coffins. The winner gets their choice of box, plus random book swag! US Only please!
