Lori: This happens to be one of my ALL time favorite movies!!! Shaun of the Dead rekindled my love for movies in general when I first saw it. The opening sequence has to be one of the best openers ever. SO MUCH FORESHADOWING! Plus I’ve a thing for Simon Pegg. Moving on!!

The story follows our sort of stuck in life hero Shaun. He’s quickly approaching the end of his 20’s and hasn’t really grown up. He lives with his flatmate Pete, who seems to be a white collar douche, and Ed who occasionally sells pot to help out with the bills. But mostly he just plays video games and farts. He’s fun though, so there is that.

The story doesn’t really jump into being a zombie movie immediately. We get the a full, and funny look at Shaun’s life as it sort of starts falling apart. His flatmate is unhappy, his girlfriend is unhappy, and his step-dad is definitely unhappy.

What I LOVED about Shaun of the Dead is that it’s a classic horror film, with slow zombies, that mocks and honors the other films that have come before it. It also makes me think in a British accent in my head for a few days after watching it.

Elyse: You know I felt utter shame at the fact that I didn’t catch this reference to George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead the first dozen times I saw this movie!

Lindsay: This is easily my favorite zombie movie of ALL TIME! Yes, I know that it’s more funny than it is scary, but the zombies are classic, and the one-liners are unforgettable. And yes, I have a thing for Simon Pegg too…

Elyse: This movie has so many “I FUCKING LOVE THIS MOVIE” moments for me. This scene which leads into the ensuing apocalypse remains one of my all time favorites.

Elyse: But after things start to go down Shaun is a man with a plan!

Elyse:  Shaun’s face and his stagger as the group shambles into the zombie horde is both hilarious and terrifying. I don’t think I could EVER risk strolling into a horde like that even if my life depended on it. I’d definitely be looking for a new safe house plan!

Lindsay: I’m with Rick Grimes on this one. I’m smearing myself with zombie guts before shambling into a horde of undead.
