When a gorgeous young dancer walks through his door, a strip club owner must decide whether to follow his rules or his heart in the third novel by the author of One Tiny Lie and Ten Tiny Breaths.
Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine-year-old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.
Twenty-two-year-old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her can't get distracted by romance.
Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, and that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.
K.A. Tucker wrote another AMAZING novel. Much like Ten Tiny Breathes and One Tiny Lie I dove into the book, devoured it, and then dove into it again. It was an automatic re-read. Can I just shout it from the rooftops that I EFFING LOVE K.A. TUCKER!!!!
Charlie has baggage, a lot of baggage. Yet somehow she still has a solid head on her shoulders (sometimes). Cain has equally as much baggage. It was so wonderful to see Cain’s mask finally stripped off.
The story of Cain, and Penny’s (his strip club) was heartbreaking to learn, and Cain is much more honest about his past than Charlie is. But that’s because Charlie’s past isn’t in her past. She’s living it. I loved spending more time with the characters at the club as well. Ben is laugh out loud funny. Nate is just a giant teddy bear, and Ginger is the right mix of awesome and saucy.
The story is sweep- you- off- your- feet good. Tucker has the ability to write gritty, yet sweet romances. She can take you to dark places, and then show you tenderness within the next page. I LOVE THAT. It’s fast paced, but slow when you need it to be. So even when you are consuming it at a rapid place you feel like you are savoring every moment with these characters. For a day and a half these characters became part of my life. I cared about them and I wanted them to have happiness. I craved them when I couldn’t read, and couldn’t put them down when I could. In fact I managed to lose myself so completely that I forgot that I was reading this book for review, and didn’t pull quotes. I love when I lose myself like that.
Each of these novels can be read alone, but I wouldn’t suggest it. NO. Just read all of them. They are all equally good and unique, and need to be read.
Thank you Atria, Ink Slinger, and K.A. Tucker for allowing me to read this amazing book.
