*Lori’s Top 14 books of 2014*

December 15, 2014 Best of 2014 2

Whenever I write these posts I worry that I’m not going to be able to come up with enough books, or leave a friends book off, or just offend an author. But I do have favorite books. I pretty much like everything I read and actually LOVE most of it, but these are the ones that have stood out to me in 2014.

14.) NocteNOCTE by Courtney Cole

I’m not really sure if I actually liked Nocte. And that alone earns it a spot on the list. The tale was supposed to be dark and twisted. And I can see how it would seem like that to most readers. But I  day-dream more fucked up shit than what happened in this book. I found it pretty predictable. but the writing was good, and it WAS different than the normal…

New Time of Death

13.) Time of Death: Induction by Shana Festa

What a super amazing classic zombie tale this was. The author infused it with just the right amount of humor to have me laughing, and gnawing my nails at the same time.

ttic12.) The Truth is Contagious by Emily Goodwin

Because it’s Emily. Duh. How could I not love this book. I loved these characters so fiercely. So much so that I couldn’t beta read it for her, because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye.

Stepbrother Dearest Cover

11.) Stepbrother Dearest by Penelope Ward

I was totally taken by surprise when it was so much more than the porn title promised me. This book had a depth that most books with non-porn titles could only wish to achieve. Bravo!

EllieJordan

10.) Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper by J.L. Bryan

J.L. Bryan never fails me. Never, and Ellie Jordan is just another amazing story from him.

LastMission

9.) Last Mission of the Living, Rhiannon Frater

Because I love everything Rhiannon does. The imagery of this book is freaking poetic man. I felt like I was moving slowly through the most amazing zombie movie ever made. She TOOK me there!!!

Nerd-Final-ebooksm

8.) #Nerd by Cambria Hebert

So much fun! I mean I can’t really say anything else about it. It was perfection. Refreshing. I loved it.

The Reflective

7.) The Reflective by Tamara Rose Blodgett

So utterly unique. I love the way Tamara writes, always have. She just writes good dark fiction.

Hot Blooded

6.) Hot Blooded by Kendall Grey

Kendall crafts a strong, solid, and amazing story. It’s beautifully crafted. And I had to think, and be active reading it. Super duper awesome stuff.

Love at End of Days

5.) Love at the End of Days by Tera Shanely

PERF! If I was stranded in the middle of the woods and a bear was about to eat me I would die with this book clutched in my hands. Pages of lesser books would be fluttering around my cold dead body as evidence of my using paperbacks as a weapon against the beast.

ugly love

4.) Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Best contemp I’ve read in a very, very long time. A very, very, very LONG TIME.

Wither_Ebook Cover (1)

3.) Wither by Amy Miles

I almost shanked Lindsay when I found out she’d signed up for a review copy of this book too. If she was the only one who got it I would have. This was one of my most anticipated books in forever! The fact that it stood up to the hype was amazing. Bring on book 2!!!

Inferno Park

2.) Inferno Park by J.L. Bryan

Scary, gory, J.L. Bryan. It’s like a book crafted just for me.

Suffer the Children

1.) Suffer the Children by Craig DiLouie

This book is so fucked up. It eats other fucked up books for lunch. It’s twisted, sad, scary, and bloody. It’s kinda like a normal day at my house.
