They dive so humanity survives. Now they take to the sea.
In the fourth installment of the award-winning and USA Today bestselling Hell Divers series, the Sea Wolf sets out to search for the Metal Islands. Leading the expedition is legendary Hell Diver Xavier Rodriguez. After enduring for a decade on the poisoned surface, his survival skills will be put to the test on the dangerous open seas. But storms, sea monsters, and the cannibalistic Cazadores aren’t the only threat to X and his small crew. Their mission will uncover hard truths about the history of the war that left humankind stranded in the air for centuries. And the fate of those still living on the airships might very well rest on this fragile and perilous journey to find a new home.
I feel like I have been waiting for this book for forever! Being in the middle of an epic series like this is one of my favorite places to be. But it’s also the hardest review to write. It’s nearly impossible to explain why the book is so great without letting slip details of the previous books. I can’t talk to you about characters who have died, and the repercussions of their absence. Or about how certain characters are reunited and about how glorious it is.
You’re killin’ me, Smalls!
I will tell you that it feels like the series has taken a turn. A whole new vibe rules over these pages, and it is one of hope and momentum. The setting of the previous books has been largely stationary, split between the Hive and surface. In this fourth installment, however, we get to see something brand new. A whole new continent, in fact! Small tidbits of history are being fed to us, slowly revealing how the human race has ended up in this mess.
Along with any of the characters who have somehow managed to survive this long in the series, there are a few new faces, though I’m going to try not to get too attached to them, for obvious reason. The regular citizens aboard the Hive don’t play a huge role, since our attention is now being pulled in so many directions and there simply isn’t time to show all the secondary characters. Because there really isn’t time! I’m telling, non-stop action! I don’t think there is a single scene in the whole book that doesn’t devolve into bloodshed.
As for the future of the series? I believe there’s one more book still left to be released. I’m obviously excited for it, but also feeling a little trepidation. I will probably be facing some withdrawal when the series finally wraps up, though I have no doubt that it will be satisfying. Until then, I will entertain myself with speculation about the end game. If I’m being honest, I really don’t have a single clue where they’ll end up, but I love to keep guessing.
