From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance—and the enchanting music that inspires one young woman to put her life back together.
At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.
Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…
From the author of the New York Times bestsellers Slammed, Point of Retreat, Hopeless, This Girl, and Losing Hope, Maybe Someday is destined to become another bestseller and long-lasting fan favorite.
I’ve been putting off writing this review because I want to do the book justice, without spoiling the plot, and honestly, I’m a little confused on how to do that. I want to sing to the sky about this book, but my friends will all clamp a hand over my mouth until they’ve had a chance to read it. But… but… I need to talk to someone about it NOW!!
I love Colleen Hoover’s writing, so I should’ve known better. I should never have started this right before bed. I started it at about 10pm, and read for hours. I wanted nothing more than to just keep going through the night! If only I didn’t have kids or a job, I would’ve been set! I wasn’t compelled to read it because it’s exciting or action packed, but the characters were so absorbing that I forgot all about the world around me for a while. Sydney is just a regular girl, living a regular life. So quickly I found myself within her skin. She is me.
When Sydney finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend, she is left homeless, with nowhere to go. Enter Ridge. A songwriter with writer’s block. They come to a mutual agreement that will help them both out of their troubles. If only it were all so easy. Unwelcome feelings begin to grow between them, but it only seems to complicate matters. Books often glamorize love, making it passionate, controlling and all encompassing. Maybe Someday is all of those things, but Colleen also made sure to touch on the negative feelings involved: guilt, frustration, jealousy. A full spectrum of Feels.
Due to the nature of the plot, there are long swaths of dialogue. It’s not your average writing style, but it was easy to get into the swing of things. And once you get into it, you won’t escape! You’ll want more! As far as I know, it’s a stand alone novel, but I couldn’t help but notice that there was a small plot point that was left hanging. Will it be picked up in another book? I can dream…
For increased reading pleasure, I recommend checking out the companion music. Griffin Peterson paired up with Colleen Hoover to create some truly great songs to go along with the book, and I absolutely love this concept! When reading a book with songs written in it, it’s nearly impossible to imagine what it would sound like. Now you don’t have to stop there! I have had two songs running through my head for DAYS!
