Despite what you’ve been told, the Apocalypse doesn’t begin with fire raining down from the heavens, nor does it begin with the human race falling down on their faces in supplication before a triumphant god. No, the sounds of the Apocalypse are much more terrifying than that, and I should know … I’ve heard them, and hearing the world tumble into chaos around me is not something I’ll ever forget.
My name is Melody Carter.
A Boeing 767 fell from the sky and wiped out most of my neighborhood.
But, that's the least of my worries.
My list of "Things I'm Most Worried About" shifted dramatically when my dad told me that charred corpses tried to make a meal out of their rescuers ... I'm thinking yours would too.
This is the beginning of my story.
It's not for the faint of heart.

* This is PART TWO (of FOUR PARTS) in the ongoing zombie apocalypse novella series, State of Decay.

Melody has now become a welcome addition to the compound that the army has established, but after 2 years of being alone with only the company of the dead can she handle the advances of Jude? The base has lost contact with the group in Charlotte and they need to figure out why.

The second part of this novella kept me reading until the very end, it was action packed and non-stop zombie killing. It was supremely plot driven. I really enjoy Melody’s character, even though she is pretty bad-ass thanks to the help her father provided her growing up she’s not careless which gets most characters into trouble during the apocalypse. We find very few answers to who Jude really is though, and I’m really curious about his past. He does tell Melody where he was when it all started and it made my heart fall a little, but Melody stops him from going any further. *shakes fist at Melody* I only had a minor issue with this book being that sometimes when Jude and Melody are in the thick of the action Martinez tends to use the word ‘zombie’ to death (Har har) and it becomes a bit distracting. But aside from that Part 2 was engaging and left me wanting more. I’m looking forward to Part 3 being released at the end of October.
