waiting on wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. It spotlights books that we can’t wait for!

This week I (Elyse) chose my favorite topic of everything – Horror. 🙂

Elyse’s Pick:

Title: The Girl From the Well
Author: Rin Chupeco
Expected Publication: August 5, 2014

Goodreads | Amazon

You may think me biased, being murdered myself. But my state of being has nothing to do with the curiosity toward my own species, if we can be called such. We do not go gentle, as your poet encourages, into that good night.

A dead girl walks the streets.

She hunts murderers. Child killers, much like the man who threw her body down a well three hundred years ago.

And when a strange boy bearing stranger tattoos moves into the neighborhood so, she discovers, does something else. And soon both will be drawn into the world of eerie doll rituals and dark Shinto exorcisms that will take them from American suburbia to the remote valleys and shrines of Aomori, Japan.

Because the boy has a terrifying secret – one that would just kill to get out

This book is the creepy goodness that I love! It’s got a great cover, and sounds like it could have some interesting Japanese culture with the horror.

the sleeping dead

Lori’s Pick:

Title: The Sleeping Dead
Author: Richard Farren Barber
Release Date: August 12, 2014 from Dark Fuse

Blurb: Don’t listen…

When Jackson Smith attends an interview to escape his dead-end job, he witnesses a man jumping to his death through an office window. But this suicide is only the first of many he encounters. All around him, men and women begin taking their own lives. These seemingly random events make little sense to Jackson until he hears voices urging him to join the others.

Don’t look…

As Jackson fights the desire to self-destruct, he flees through a mad city where the river and streets pile high with bodies of the sleeping dead, those who have simply surrendered to the strange voices.

Don’t hope…

Jackson’s only chance is to find an escape to this madness before giving in to the strange voices in his head.

The cover, the blurb, the story line. Everything about this book screams READ ME!

Lindsay’s pick

(A Harvesting novella)
by Melanie Karsak
Release date: ??? She swears it’s coming out soon 😉

Blurb: Ummm… there is no blurb. How’s that for a tease?! I wanna read it anyway! This is Cricket’s story, and there are zombies. I can’t wait to dig into it! 😀

  • Already had Elyse and Lindsay’s picks on my TBR, but just added The Sleeping Dead — which looks FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC! Thank you 🙂

    • Lori Parker

Doesn’t it? All three picks this week are worth waiting on!!!

    • I had to go get The Sleeping Dead off Netgalley after Lori told me about it. Sounds so good!

  • Kristin@Blood, Sweat and Books

All three of these are a win. I just picked up The Sleeping Dead on Netgalley so hoping that is good. I loved The Harvesting so Midway hopefully will rock as well. Great cover at least. Lastly, The Girl from the Well just sounds creepy and different. Great picks this week!!

Thanks! I picked up the Sleeping Dead on Netgalley and it’s pretty high on the pile right now!
