April 23, 2014 Waiting on Wednesday 1

waiting on wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. It spotlights books that we cannot wait for!

This week we decided to try something new. We’re each picking a book that we’re excited to read, within a self-chosen theme. This week’s theme is Dystopian.

Lindsay’s pick:

Parasite by Mira Grant
Parasitology #1
Published October 29th 2013
Goodreads | Amazon

A decade in the future, humanity thrives in the absence of sickness and disease.

We owe our good health to a humble parasite – a genetically engineered tapeworm developed by the pioneering SymboGen Corporation. When implanted, the tapeworm protects us from illness, boosts our immune system – even secretes designer drugs. It’s been successful beyond the scientists’ wildest dreams. Now, years on, almost every human being has a SymboGen tapeworm living within them.

But these parasites are getting restless. They want their own lives…and will do anything to get them.

Okay, yes, I’m aware that this book was already released last year. I can’t help it that my TBR list is ridiculously long and I haven’t gotten around to it yet! It’s lined up on my kindle and I WILL read it soon! Feel free to nag at me until I do.

Elyse’s Pick:

After the End by Amy Plum
After the End #1
Release Date: May 6, 2014

13601681Amazon | Goodreads

She’s searching for answers to her past. They’re hunting her to save their future.

World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They’ve survived for the last thirty years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there.

At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life.

When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.

Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she’s trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.

First of all the cover is gorgeous! Mostly I am in love with the romantic writing style of Amy Plum, her Revenants trilogy is one of my all time favorite series. She has the knack for completely immersing you into her story, making you fall in love with her characters, and giving you horrible book hangovers. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book.

Lori’s Pick:

I’m choosing Radicals by Frankie Rose.

A life of fire

A life of blood

A life of sacrifice

When Kit ran from the Sanctuary, she left behind the ghosts of all those  she killed. However, unlike the dead, the living she left behind aren’t so  easily escaped. Her father and his men are searching for her, and they  won’t stop until they find her.

Reunited with old friends, Ryka and Kit must put their trust in the man  who killed Ryka’s father if they are to survive.

But can they learn to trust him when their instincts tell them not to?

And can they overcome the revelations the Sanctuary is yet to throw at them?

Book 3 due December 2014 TBC

Yep the sequel to Halo is finally coming out!!! Halo was seriously one of my favorite reads last year. So I cannot wait to dig back into this story.

So, that’s what we’re waiting for. What books are you excited for? We would love to hear from you, because clearly our to-read lists aren’t long enough. 😛

  • I wanted to like Parasite more than I did. I haven’t read After the End. Actually I haven’t read any Amy Plum yet. One day! Enjoy your books!
